The LMS, commanded by Major Doleque (Retd), along with a section of Mosley Common Miners and the Liverpool City Assault Section had decided to skirt the north of Walkden and form an attack through Linnyshaw Moss. This meant skirting the northern end of Blackleach Reservoir where the PL had outposts.

But, forewarned is forearmed. The SRA and PLMWM had been alerted by the SRA Intelligence section.
Forming a platoon of SRA and two PLMWM sections they asked the heroine Margaret of Grantham to oversee the operation. She willingly accepted having been training the militia to increase its efficiency and effectiveness. this was a chance to see them in actual combat.

Starting early they set off hoping to reach the old sheep pen in the further north of the Moss. Luckily, they did as the advancing menace of the socialists came out of the distance.

The SRA reach the sheep pen and discomforted the MC miners. The lmg causing their nerve to drop. Worse was to come later when the MWM took aim and with their lmg caused the miners nerves to totally fail routing them.
The LMS inflicted casualties on the left most MWM and took some in return. Although the LMS had an lmg the women stoically held their nerve.
Meanwhile, the LFC section had been ordered to the left hoping to exert pressure on the command section of the SRA and did indeed inflict a casualty on that command.
But the combination of the SRA and MWM fire inflicted casuaties for only one in return.
Major Doleque (Retd), seeing the situation was no longer in his favour ordered the retreat to save his command.
